We have had a Flicker in the neighborhood the last couple of years pecking holes in various buildings, our turn came and we had big hole up high on the gable end. Nothing seemed to deter
it until the bumblebees moved in.

The fix last weekend (and I am back at work on the mainland) Now I hear it is BACK!!! Does anyone have a idea to deter woodpeckers??? |
Somewhat frustrating, not like getting rid of racoons in the attic - now that was a really stinky and time consuming job. Had to wait until the babies were old enough to be able to go hunting for food at night and THEN cleaned out the space (insulation and poo), added all kinds of animal stink deoderizer, fresh insulation and small grid wire under the eves (2 layers). They never came back.
I added a few pictures of land I can see while on the Ferry to and from the Island.

Oh the lovely Flicker...pretty but so terribly noisy. I remember one that was determined to make a hole in our aluminum siding in Kelowna - it was a wicked long spring I can tell you that. We tried just about everything we could think of......on the other hand....isn't nature grand?

I am guessing loud noises (music?) wouldn't help either.
ReplyDeleteHi Rob!
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you for sharing this at my party... Sorry it took so long to visit and comment. I don't think I know what a Flicker is. Some kind of woodpecker? I do know that when critters get into the attic they can sure wreak havoc!
I have to tell you that I also have a "Buddy" and he looks almost identical to yours! You may have seen him on my side bar... before his haircut.
Thanks again for joining my weekly party!
