Stretching my mind

New blogging/computer stuff to learn.

Sometimes a little exercise is good, other times more is better. Knowing when to ease up comes into play as well. Learning new things is a lot like that. I've been learning something new to me: PicMonkey

First tough lesson was 'how to get the pictures into a folder on my desktop (from iPhoto) so I could edit and watermark them'.

I downloaded the tutorial my sister wrote (Watermarking with PicMonkey) and then we worked it through on the phone. Step by step. Then I tried and asked questions and clarification, finally (fourth try) was by myself.

Got it.

OK, first independent try - kettle on orange stool. I uploaded a picture to PicMonkey, framed it and added a watermark and saved it. Whew.
I can do that now but at first it was a foreign language. Still not fast. Still have to think it through, but happy to have learned something useful for blogging.

The wheels keep on turning.
Talk about learning - redid this room, painted, laid a new floor.
This close up of a butterfly that I took on my Tuesday walk is amazing in its details.
Learning to use a new operating system takes time too. Lion looks different, works somewhat differently. iPhoto does not look the same as the earlier version I was using. Getting my most used bookmarks on to this computer and then getting them to work (on line stuff) has not been simple either. I have figured it out with help from the bank, my sister, asking questions etc. but it all takes a lot of time and effort.

So, a good day.

  4. I love that you go to your sister for help. My hubby is my go to guy. He is much more computer savvy than I am. Boy, I have come along way though. I have not checked out picmonkey yet, but it's on my to do list. Before you know it you'll be doing it in your sleep. Love your copper pot! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.

  5. Hello Rob, I believe we have all been there at one time or another - trying to learn something new - blogging has brought us together to share common interests and has expanded our horizons. I have an older version of a Mac IBook G4 - it is on its second hard drive and a prayer - I hope to upgrade someday soon - I haven't tried PicMonkey - I have been using Photobucket - love it! Once you get it down, you'll have lots of fun with it - I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
    Kathy

  6. Hi Rob!
I guess I didn't publish my last comment to you, so I will try again.

I didn't know Joy was your sister, I visit her blog often. Nice that she can help you out with the computer stuff. Your pictures have always been interesting (like this week's wheel Picture) but with picMonkey you will have many more option to edit or enhance your photos.

Thanks for sharing at my party this week!
